Have You Done Your Holiday Appliance Maintenance?

Holiday festivities are just around the corner, and with the celebrations come all the memory-filled moments ready to be cherished. The best of those memories usually center around a perfectly roasted ham or turkey, stringing up lights on the Christmas tree, and baking up dozens of gingerbread cookies. Other fun traditions might include switching the thermostat from cold to heat for the first time and enjoying longer-than-usual hot showers on frosty mornings.

Broken kitchen appliances, discovering faulty power outlets, and running out of hot water are snafus that are never a welcome part of the holiday season. Household problems don’t have to put a damper on your festivities. By adding the following holiday appliance maintenance tips to your holiday to-do list, your celebrations can be as magical as ever.

Deep Clean to Avoid Breakdowns

If your calendar includes hosting a small, socially distanced gathering this year, deep cleaning is likely on your checklist. As you grab those cleaning supplies, add some additional supplies and tools to give your most-used appliances some extra attention.

With dishwashers, ovens, and refrigerators being reported as the top appliances to break down according to a Consumer Reports survey of 381,000 appliances, now is an ideal time to add those appliances to your cleaning list.

Go ahead and deep clean your oven and stove top, making sure all the heating elements are plugged in or igniting properly. Pull that fridge away from the wall and clean out the dust from the mechanical coils . And run your dishwasher through a good cleaning by simply setting a single dishwasher-safe cup of white vinegar on the top rack for a full cycle. A little extra holiday appliance maintenance cleaning will help you keep your holidays even merrier.

Plan a Cooking Dress Rehearsal

Have your kitchen appliances been gathering a bit of dust as you’ve relied on DoorDash lately? Time to test everything out before the holidays. A week or so before your meal, plan a cooking dress rehearsal. You can keep it simple by whipping up a batch of cookies or making some homemade mac and cheese. Then, load up that dishwasher to make sure everything comes out clean.

This test run will surely signal any problems with those appliances and allow you plenty of time to get everything repaired before your small event.
